When I am finally able to upgrade from my T2i, it will definitely get the beanbag on the dash treatment. “Know before you go” also applies to terrain. If cornfields or grasslands are what you are after, satellite views of online maps are very helpful. Small towns that were once stops along major highways were usually only bypassed by just a few miles. If you are looking for pre Interstate America, highways like US 30 for instance, parallel long stretches of Interstate 80. If you are on a schedule, you can often hop on and off the interstate to explore, and hop back on a few miles later. Bonus: The food options are usually better when driving through small towns.

I have a Nikon D200 with a lot of extras. Instead of trading it in for $50.00 I decided to mount it on a bean bag on the dash board of my car and take pictures as I travel. I’ve gotten some fabulous shots that I wouldn’t have been able to with in any other way. Try it , you’ll like it!

I am not sure what the ther two read, but, to sum up what I understood: “If you want to take a sunrise/sunset photo, plan ahead; because you only have a short window of time to do it in.”

Sometimes sunrise / sunset is great light. But it can be far more valuable to know how to use the light you have now, especially on a road trip. Sometimes that means selecting the subject for the light instead of waiting for the perfect light for this particular subject.
